Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University is an educational institution of higher education in Zhytomyr with the IV level of accreditation. Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University is the only one technical university in Zhytomyr region.
History
Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University was founded in 1920 as Volynskiy Zemelniy Polytechnic. In 1960 students who worked in enterprises were required to study at the educational institution for 3 years, after which they had the opportunity to complete their studies at every higher education institution in Ukraine and the former Soviet Union. On September 1, 1960, the first 175 students began their studies. By the beginning of the 1964-65 academic year, the total number of students at Zhytomyr Polytechnic reached 1,052, with up to 39 lecturers. Over 33 years, the State University “Zhytomyr Polytechnic” trained almost 5,000 qualified mechanical and electrical engineers for the national economy, and more than 3,000 correspondence students underwent general technical training at the branch.
In 1975, the faculty was reorganized into a branch of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, reflecting its growing role in training engineering specialists for various industries. With further development and increased academic autonomy, the institution gained the status of Zhytomyr Engineering and Technology Institute in 1994, offering a wider range of technical and technological programs.
In 2003, recognizing the university’s expanding influence in education and research, it was renamed Zhytomyr State Technological University. This period saw active development of new specializations, international partnerships, and research infrastructure. In 2019, the institution entered a new stage of its evolution by becoming Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University, a modern multidisciplinary university offering high-quality education in engineering, IT, economics, management, and law.

Nowadays Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University is a modern higher education institution in didactics, research and science. The university is a leading educational and scientific hub in the region, known for innovation, academic excellence, and strong industry collaboration.
Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University educates students on all three levels of study – Bachelor, Master and Doctoral. Students can choose from a wide range of academic programs at all three levels. Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University prepares students to achieve a high degree of specialization and expertise in 27 specialties, namely Engineering, IT, Ecology and Mining, Economics, Business Studies, Accounting and Taxation, Law, Philology etc.
Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University has all the necessary facilities for students’ professional education and personal growth. The university has modern well-equipped scientific laboratories, computer classes, cozy dormitories, library and reading halls, sport centre, student centre for extracurricular work and leisure activities, recreation centre etc. There are 11 sports facilities on the university campus, including a stadium with artificial surface and a tennis court. The University has a sports camp, located outside the city. In Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University there is a medical centre, a snack bar and a dining room for 220 seats.
The university is a multidisciplinary educational and research centre that includes Postgraduate Education Centre, Domestic and International Students Pre-university Education Centre, International Education Culture Centre, Career Development Centre, Academic Business Incubator, and CreativePoliHUB.
Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University educates students from all over the world. Our students come from the Czech Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the State of Israel, the Republic of India, the Republic of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Belarus, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Cameroon, Kingdom of Eswatini, the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Turkey, and others. Nowadays, about 100 International students do a wide range of academic courses in English and Ukrainian at all three levels of study.

Accommodation
Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University manages two dormitory buildings with a total area of 12,860.1 square meters. The sanitary and technical condition of the university dormitories fully meets safety and hygiene standards. Ongoing maintenance is carried out in the residential and common areas, including current repairs, and furniture or equipment is replaced as needed. The number of household and auxiliary facilities meets the needs of the residents.
Each dormitory is equipped with local computer networks, providing access to the global Internet, ensuring that students can study. The dormitories offer comfortable living conditions with 2–3 students per room. Each room is furnished with beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs, and shelves. Bathrooms and sanitary units are located on each floor. Kitchens equipped with necessary appliances are available on every floor for students to prepare meals.
For international students, separate sections and rooms are specially designated and equipped, providing a comfortable environment adapted to their needs and helping them feel at home. Additionally, students have access to communal laundry facilities, lounges, and study rooms. The dormitory premises are well-maintained, secure, and designed to support both educational and personal well-being.
