History
The origins of “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” National University date back to November 5 (18), 1900, when the first seven-year mechanical technical vocational college in Ukraine was established in the town of Alexandrovsk (now Zaporizhzhia). In 1920, the mechanical technical vocational college was reorganized into an industrial college offering qualifications equivalent to higher education. In 1930, it became the Zaporizhzhia Agricultural Engineering Institute.
During World War II, in August 1941, the Institute was evacuated to Barnaul, Altai Region. It resumed operations in March 1944 after the liberation of Zaporizhzhia. In 1957, the institution was renamed Zaporizhzhia Machineconstruction Institute (ZMI). A military training department was established in 1967, and in 1980, the institute was awarded the Badge of Honor for its contributions to professional training and scientific research.
In 1994, ZMI attained the highest accreditation level (Level IV) and was renamed Zaporizhzhia State Technical University (ZSTU). On August 7, 2001, ZSTU achieved national status and became Zaporizhzhia National Technical University (ZNTU).
Significant developments continued:
- September 1, 2003: A memorial to D. Podderyogin, the first director of the original vocational college, was unveiled.
- March 25, 2005: ZNTU received a gold medal and the title “Leader in Modern Education” at the 8th International Exhibition Modern Education in Ukraine – 2005.
- 2007: The Institute of Management and Law and the College of Humanities were established.
- March 2010: ZNTU was awarded the Laureate Diploma of Leaders of Ukrainian Science and Education and the *Grand Prix Diploma “Leader of Higher Education of Ukraine.”
- November 2011: Celebrated 10 years of cooperation with Delcam Company (UK) in CAD/CAM technology.
- February 2013: At the Modern Educational Organization – 2013 exhibition in Kyiv, ZNTU received the Grand Prix Diploma “Leader of Modern Education” and a Certificate for the Quality of Scientific Publications.
New structural and technological advancements followed:
- 2016: The Faculty of Law of the Institute of Management and Law was established.
- 2016: The Faculty of Social Sciences was founded.
- 2017: The Faculty of Construction, Architecture and Design was created.
- October 2017: Two high-tech laboratories were opened: one for dynamic research of the cutting process, equipped with the latest machinery, and another for aviation technologies.
On April, 2019: ZNTU was officially renamed to Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University (NU “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic”).

The educational process at National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” is carried out according to 160 educational programs, which are provided by 60 departments, organized into 13 faculties:

National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” is proud of its highly qualified and experienced academic staff, which includes 650 representatives actively engaged in education and research.
Among them:
- 360 employees hold academic degrees and titles.
- 105 are Doctors of Sciences and Professors.
- 10 staff members have been honored with the title of Honoured Educator of Ukraine.
- 35 are Academicians and Corresponding Members of national academies, in accordance with their fields of expertise.
In recognition of their contributions to higher education, 230 members of the university’s academic staff have received awards from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Most faculty members are actively involved as participants and coordinators of research projects conducted in collaboration with industrial enterprises and institutions across the Zaporizhzhia region, strengthening the connection between academic research and practical application.
National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” pays special attention to modern technologies and digitalization of the educational environment. The University is actively implementing VR technologies to create immersive learning experiences and loT items. Remote engineering, Al, and applications are just some of the many opportunities for innovative technologies that are available for students at National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” and help them to better absorb educational content and prepare for future work in the digital economy. Thanks to these technologies and modern study methods, our graduates are highly qualified, which makes them sought-after employees in the labour market.
The internship of students at National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” is a mandatory component of the study program and is aimed at acquiring practical skills in performing typical tasks of professional activity. Seekers of higher education can get training at enterprises and organizations of the Zaporizhzhia city and the region. The University develops study programs in cooperation with employers to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills that will be used directly in their future professional activities.
National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” provides its students with the opportunity to get a dual education with a salary. This process is regulated by a tripartite agreement between the University, the employer, and the student. This approach to the educational process allows the employer to influence the employee’s educational trajectory at the initial stage of cooperation with the employee and not to waste time and resources on professional adaptation after the successful completion of university study.
Within the framework of the Erasmus+ (KA1), National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” has signed inter-institutional agreements with European universities, in particular with Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), Ilmenau Technical University (Germany), Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Germany), Thomas More University College (Belgium), Polytechnic of Madrid (Spain), University of Transylvania in Brasov, and University of Porto (Portugal). This allows students to study for 3 to 6 months at a partner university, and for teachers to share their experience and scientific achievements.
Accommodation
The student residence hall was built in 1968 and is a five-storey building with a corridor-section layout. Each section accommodates five residents and includes double and triple rooms, as well as a shared bathroom with a toilet and shower.
All rooms are fully furnished with new wardrobes, beds, nightstands, and other essential furniture. Most students are provided with orthopedic mattresses to ensure comfortable living conditions. A secure storage room is available on the ground floor. Each floor features renovated kitchens equipped with gas stoves. To ensure the safety of residents, the building is equipped with a video surveillance system that monitors both the interior and the surrounding area, preventing unauthorized access.
The residence hall is surrounded by greenery, including trees, shrubs, and flowers. The hall administration, together with students, organizes regular clean-up and landscaping activities every spring and autumn to maintain and improve the environment.
There are designated leisure rooms on the third and fourth floors. A fitness room on the fifth floor is equipped with exercise machines and other sports equipment. For students’ convenience, the second floor houses a 24/7 self-service laundry facility. A water purification system is also available, providing clean drinking water directly in the building.
The residence hall hosts a Student Self-Governance Center, which includes a student photo studio and a gym. Students can enjoy their free time productively by participating in various clubs and activities such as Aikido, yoga, and more.
