Founded on December 12, 1818, by the wife of the M.G. Repnin, Governor General of the Poltava and Chernihiv provinces, Varvara Alexeevna, the Institute for Noble Maidens in Poltava became the first private secondary educational institution for noble women among the provincial cities of the Russian autocratic Empire. Gogol, V.A. Zhukovski, Decembrists – brothers Sergey and Matthew Muravyevy-Apostoly. In January 1918, the Institute of Noble Maidens was evacuated to Vladikavkaz, which initiated the establishment and development of the urban women’s gymnasium.

By 1940, the Institute had expanded its structure and included 20 departments covering various disciplines such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Graphics, Theoretical Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Building Materials, and the Building Industry. Between 1954 and 1971, the University underwent significant growth, with the establishment of new faculties including Industrial and Civil Engineering, Architecture, Plumbing, and General Technical Correspondence courses offered in evening formats, as well as professional development programs.
