In 1993, the Faculty of International Economic Relations was established. By Resolution No. 166 of the Board of the Ukrainian Consumer Cooperatives Union (Ukoopspilka) dated December 8, 1994, and based on the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated November 26, 1994, the Lviv Institute of Trade and Economics was transformed into the Lviv Commercial Academy.

On April 15, 2016, in accordance with Resolution No. 95 of the Central Union of Consumer Societies of Ukraine dated December 24, 2015, and with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Letter No. 1/11–3984 dated March 25, 2016), the Lviv Commercial Academy was renamed Lviv University of Trade and Economics.
