    In connection with recent events in Ukraine, Donetsk National Medical University moved to Kropyvnytskyi – a city in the center of Ukraine. The University has several administrative buildings and hostels. All the teaching staff has been transferred to Kropyvnytskyi as well as all the scientific centres and hospitals for international students to gain practical experience. At the moment the Donetsk National Medical University works in a regular mode and provides top-quality education in English for students from Ukraine and all over the world.

    Donetsk National Medical University “DNMU” is one of the best and the largest medical university in Eastern Europe. Donetsk National Medical University was established in 1930 as Donetsk Medical Institute. In 1994 DNMU was given the status of a University and in 2008 DNMU got the status of National Medical University and it was renamed to Donetsk National Medical University. DNMU is counted as one of the best medical schools in Ukraine and in all over Europe. Donetsk National Medical University was the first medical university in Ukraine that was recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and by the Directory of I-Med Schools. Donetsk National Medical University is registered with the World Medical Universities list.

    Donetsk National Medical University was the first medical university in Ukraine and in eastern Europe that started the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry in the English language for foreign students in 1991 after the independence of Ukraine. The university is attested according to the highest (the fourth) Level of accreditation. The  Donetsk National Medical University activities confirm The Constitution of Ukraine, Ukrainian legislation, acts issued by the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Decrees of the Health Department and Education Department of Ukraine, and the University Rules. Donetsk National Medical University is the most attractive to foreign students among other Ukrainian medical universities due to its high ranking, high level of specialist training, high-tech laboratories, good knowledge of the English language of the staff, and campus system of the DNMU.

    History

    In 1805, a branch of medical science was established at Imperial Donetsk University, later evolving into the Faculty of Medicine. Following several mergers and reorganizations, the Donetsk Medical Academy was formed in 1920, integrating the Medical Faculty of Donetsk University with the Donetsk Medical Institute and Donetsk Women’s Medical Society. In 1921, the Donetsk Medical Academy was renamed Donetsk Medical Institute, housing faculties in both medical and odontology fields. Subsequent changes occurred, with the Medical Department of the Donetsk Medical Institute undergoing reorganization in 1930, focusing on prophylactic treatment. By 1937, the medical-prophylactic faculty was renamed as the medical faculty of the Donetsk Medical Institute.

    In 1992, further restructuring took place, leading to the establishment of the Medical Faculty within the Donetsk Medical Institute, subsequently renamed Donetsk State Medical University in 1994. It marked a significant milestone in the university’s history, solidifying its position as a leading institution in medical education and research. The evolution continued in 1994 with the division of the Medical Faculty of Donetsk State Medical University into two distinct entities: the first and second medical faculties. The developments underscored the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence in medical training and scholarship shapes the future of healthcare professionals and contributes to advancements in medical science.

    University Today

    Today more than 15000 students are studying at eight faculties of Donetsk National Medical University. Among them there are about 4200 foreign students from Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, USA, UK, Germany, Poland, Greece, Israel, Turkey, India, Nepal, Srilanka, China, Malaysia, Mauritius, Pakistan, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Peru, Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Tunisia, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Lebanon and from other countries studying at the DNMU at the moment. Due to the high level of specialist training and considerably low tuition fees, DNMU is one of the most attractive Ukrainian Medical Universities for foreigners.

    In total more than 52,000 highly qualified doctors, well-known scientists, researchers, and health service organizers from Ukraine, Russia, and other CIS countries as well as from 96 countries of the world from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas have graduated from the  Donetsk National Medical University. Among them were more than 8000 foreign students from all over the world including 3 Doctors, 70 Candidates of Medical Science, and about 200 clinical post-graduates (residents).

    At present the total teaching staff at Donetsk National Medical University“DNMU” is 1147. Among them are 150 professors and 243 Associate Professors, academic titles of doctors and candidates of medical sciences are respectively 117 and 449 people. The Donetsk National Medical University is a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and two corresponding members of AMS of Ukraine, 4 laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine, 18 distinguished scientists and engineers, 8 distinguished doctors, 2 Honoured workers of Education of Ukraine, 37 full members of international and departmental academies science, 1 Hero of Ukraine. Donetsk National Medical University was recognized as the best training-methodical center among Ukrainian medical universities in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 and was awarded certificates from the Ukrainian Health Ministry and Ministry of Education.

    Accommodation

    Donetsk National Medical University has a very good hostel system with fully furnished rooms, a quiet study environment, and a surrounding recreation center. DNMU has 9 hostels with a total area of 44512 sq.m for accommodation of 4356 students. Rooms on campus are available for students. All hostel rooms are furnished and vary in size and number of conveniences. Dormitory rooms at the Donetsk National Medical University hostel accommodate 2 or 3 students in a room.

    All rooms are equipped with a bed, mattress, pillow, blanket, desk, chair, heater, water heaters, and suitable lighting for both study and relaxation. There are common areas for international students to play and mingle. Upon the student’s arrival on campus, specific accommodations are assigned and after a satisfactory health report, the student will be accommodated in the room which is allotted to him.

    Off-campus housing can be obtained in nearby apartments. Available apartments and houses are furnished and vary in size, cost, and number of conveniences. Life in Kropyvnytskyi is friendly and devoid of rush. While at first, some students may miss their home environment, native foods, or a hurried pace, they soon learn to appreciate and enjoy a culture different from their own.

    In the hostel each room is attached to the kitchen is provided for students to cook food to their own taste. Students need to supply their own kitchen utensils. Meals may be bought from various food outlets. All the rooms are provided with heaters. Our hostels feature 24-hour access to security and emergency services, making it easy to get assistance when you need it. As a campus resident, students have access to all the Donetsk National Medical University support services such as campus Security Services, Counseling Services, and Health Services.
