    Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University is a higher education institution of communal property. Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University was formed through the merger of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and Municipal Higher Education Institution ‘Kyiv Academy of Arts’ (01.01.2024).

    History

    On September 28, 1903, the Kyiv Church Teachers’ School was founded under the directorship of Vasyl Lypkivsky. This date is recognized as the foundation day of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University. In December 1917, the Kyiv Church Teachers’ School was transformed into the Kyiv Ukrainian Teachers’ Seminary, which, from 1918, bore the name of Borys Grinchenko.

    In 1920, the seminary was reorganized into the Kyiv Teachers Training School named after Borys Grinchenko. Two years later, in 1922, it was further restructured into the Kyiv Higher Three-Year Teachers Training Courses named after Borys Grinchenko, following its merger with the Three-Year Teachers Training Courses named after K. Ushynsky.

    By 1925, the institution evolved into the Teachers Training College named after Borys Grinchenko. In 1937, it underwent a renaming and became known as the Teachers Training School. On June 1, 1939, the City Institute for In-Service Teachers Training was established in Kyiv. However, its activities were temporarily suspended in 1941 due to the Nazi occupation of the city. The institute resumed operations in 1943.

    On June 26, 1991, the Kyiv Interregional Institute for In-Service Teachers Training was established through the merger of the Kyiv Regional and City Institutes for In-Service Teachers Training. Subsequently, on June 20, 2002, the institute was reorganized into the Kyiv City Teachers Training University named after Borys D. Grinchenko. On October 8, 2009, by a resolution of the Kyiv City Council, the institution was renamed Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University.

    The university continued to grow its international presence, joining the International Association of Universities on November 19, 2012, and the European Association of Universities on January 25, 2013. On October 28, 2019, the university became a full member of the European Association of Universities. This milestone reflected the university’s successful international engagement, improved rankings within the European Education Area, and its dedication to supporting and implementing European values.

    In 2023, the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University was established through the merger of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and the Municipal Institution of Higher Education “Kyiv Academy of Arts.”

    University Today

    Over 9 thousand students get their education within different specialties at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University. Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University offers 49 bachelor’s programs, 55 master’s programs, and 14 postgraduate programs. Furthermore, we provide opportunities for doctoral studies through five scientific program subject areas. The scientific-pedagogical staff includes 49 PhDs, 184 EdSs, and 434 teachers. Each year around 7,000 teachers and school principals enhance their skills and gain qualifications at the university. The university also provides students with an opportunity to visit Ph.D. training. 

    The Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University is a member of international projects supported by the European Commission – Seventh Framework Program on “International Research Network for study and development of new tools and methods for advanced pedagogical science in the field of ICT instruments, e-learning and intercultural competences (IRNet)”, TEMPUS on the themes: “Development of Embedded System Courses with the implementation of Innovative Virtual approaches for integration of Research, Education, and Production in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia (DESIRE)”, “Education for Leadership, Intelligence, and Talent Encouraging (ELITE)”.

    International cooperation is one of the major directions of the University’s activities. The University is actively working towards the internationalization of higher education. The University is internationally recognized through joining the Magna Charter Universitatum, the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European University Association (EUA). Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University University cooperates with colleges and universities from the US, Finland, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Israel, Poland, Cyprus, Portugal, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Turkey, China etc.

    As a participant of the “Erasmus +” educational exchange program, the University offers the opportunity to gain international academic experience at universities of different countries. It promotes academic mobility of all participants of the educational process, encourages participation of teaching and academic staff in international research projects in accordance with international treaties of Ukraine, as well as University’s agreements with foreign partners.The University is actively implementing joint projects with international organizations such as the European Commission, the World Bank, Co-Serve International, as well as the British Council in Ukraine, the Alliance for the Promotion of External Testing Program (USETI), Fulbright Program in Ukraine, American Councils for International Education (Ukraine).

    The University comprises 5 buildings and boasts a well-developed infrastructure, including: a modern library with branches in each building; sports complexes with a swimming pool, fitness and sports halls; over 90 SMART classrooms; a Digital Hub for innovative solutions; a training cyber range; Wi-Fi zones; concert and choreography halls; student dormitories; a television studio and press center; practical training centers, laboratories, and workshops; as well as a resource center supporting students with disabilities.

    Accommodation

    International students and students participating in exchange programs will be accommodated in the University’s Guest Rooms, which are designed to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment. The Guest Rooms are fully furnished and equipped with all necessary amenities, including Wi-Fi access, study areas, and shared kitchen and laundry facilities. They are located within easy reach of the main university buildings and public transportation, ensuring convenient access to classes and the city.
