History of the University
Established on September 11, 1922, by the decision of the Department of Education of the Ukrainian SSR, Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic University (DSAEU) has evolved through significant milestones over nearly a century of existence. Initially founded as the Department of Zootechnics of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, it later transitioned into the Kyiv Zootechnical Institute in 1930. In 1934, following a directive from the Soviet People’s Committee of the Ukrainian SSR, the institute moved to Dnipropetrovsk and was renamed the Dnipropetrovsk Agricultural Institute, with M.O. Seleh appointed as its director. The subsequent years witnessed expansions, including the establishment of the Faculty of Agronomy in October 1934 and the initiation of extramural departments in 1935.
In its early years, Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic University trained specialists in agriculture, fostering professors pivotal to the sector’s advancement. Despite challenges during the German-Soviet war, the university resumed education in 1943. Subsequent decades saw significant growth, including the establishment of new faculties like hydromelioration and economics. The university expanded its offerings with preparatory departments, postgraduate education, and master’s programs. Recognized for its contributions, DSAI received the Order of the Labor Red Banner in 1983. Further developments included opening faculties like veterinary medicine in 1980 and constructing facilities to accommodate a growing student body.
On May 14, 1991, in response to changing educational paradigms, Dnipropetrovsk Agricultural Institute was reformed into the Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic Institute, reflecting its broader scope of academic pursuits. Subsequent years saw further developments, including the establishment of postgraduate education in 1995 and the introduction of master’s degree programs in 1996. In 2014, the institution underwent another transformation, being renamed the Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic University, reaffirming its commitment to excellence in agricultural and economic education and research.
