Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University is a higher military educational institution of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The university holds the highest (IV) level of accreditation and has developed a world-class scientific foundation over decades. It conducts fundamental and applied scientific research and trains highly qualified military personnel and civilian specialists.
History
Throughout its long-standing history, it has established itself as a leading university in military education and officer training. Named in honor of the distinguished Soviet and Ukrainian military pilot Ivan Kozhedub, the university boasts a rich legacy of military educational endeavors.
Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University was created on 10 September 2003 on the basis of both the Kharkiv National Air Force Institute and Kharkiv Military University. In 2020 Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University was recognized by the NATO DEEP programme as one of 12 educational establishments participants in Ukraine.
Operating across various specialized faculties, the university is dedicated to the rigorous training of students and military officers in a multitude of critical fields. It includes military pilots, navigators, combat aviation control specialists, educational work specialists, and personnel for anti-aircraft missile troops, radio engineering troops, and engineering and aviation support roles, among others.
University Today
Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University provides military education for the training of officers in a range of specialties, including military pilots, navigators, aviation battle management specialists, moral and psychological support officers, specialists in anti-aircraft missile troops and air defense, radio engineering troops, aviation engineering support, automated control systems, flight support, information and technical systems, metrology, and information-measuring technologies. Its faculties train military personnel, civilians, and international specialists at different academic levels: junior specialist, bachelor, specialist, and master.
The university provides military training for cadets, officers, and civilian students. Students can enroll in the Reserve Officers Training Faculty and obtain a military rank. The educational process for cadets and officers is conducted under the state order, while civilian students study under contract. Graduates receive a state-recognized diploma. The university has a unique educational and material base to support learning and hands-on training. This includes specialized classrooms equipped with modern computer technologies and weapons simulators. To provide practical skills, the university also operates a training center, a training airfield, a training and simulation complex, and a sports complex. The educational infrastructure is continuously modernized and expanded.
Military education at the university is at the highest level, partly due to the continuous improvement of information resources used in the learning process. The university’s library has a collection of over one million academic and scientific publications, aiding cadets and officers in their studies. Most textbooks and teaching aids used at the university are authored by its academic staff and are published quickly through the in-house printing facility.
The university also hosts World and Armed Forces of Ukraine Championships in various disciplines.
