    Khmelnytskyi National University is the largest institution of higher education in Podillya. It trains specialists in numerous fields of knowledge and conducts educational, methodological, scientific, and educational work.

    History

    Khmelnytskyi National University was founded in June 1962 as a general technical faculty, initially enrolling 450 students. By January 1966, it evolved into a branch of the institute with faculties in mechanical and general engineering. In September 1967, it became the independent Khmelnytskyi Technological Institute of Household Services, expanding to four faculties by July 1969. Under Professor R.I. Silin’s leadership from December 1974 to October 2001, the institute developed extensively, gaining the status of Khmelnytskyi Institute of Technology in 1989 and later, Podillya Technological University in 1994. New facilities and programs were established, including faculties of radio electronics, business, and law. 

    In 1996, the humanitarian and pedagogical faculty was created, and new academic journals were launched. The university received multiple European Union TACIS grants from 1997. By 2003, it was reorganized into Khmelnytskyi State University and achieved national status in 2004. Significant achievements include high rankings in 2006 and 2007, a long-term lease of the “Proskuriv” Youth House in 2008, and numerous awards. In 2012, it was reorganized into seven faculties. Mykhailo Voynarenko was recognized by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2015. In recent years, the university opened Ukraine’s first solar power station control room in 2018, launched the “Technology and Fashion” lab, and established the Educational and Technical Center in 2019. Serhii Matyukh became rector in 2021, and in 2022, the university signed a cooperation agreement with IT company ERAM and received a Starlink satellite station.

    University Today

    Training of future specialists is conducted by 8 faculties, which comprise 42 departments, offering 126 educational programs at all levels of higher education: bachelor’s, master’s, doctor of philosophy; Doctors of Science are also being trained. Currently, more than 7,000 students are enrolled. The university currently hosts around 60 international students from nearly 20 different countries, with the majority coming from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, China, Germany, Turkey, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Croatia, Yemen, Greece, and countries of Africa.

    The educational process is supported by 89 doctors and 340 candidates of sciences. Khmelnytskyi National University is recognized as a scientific center both in Ukraine and internationally. It has over 15 scientific schools; doctoral programs; postgraduate programs and specialized scientific councils for the defense of doctoral and candidate theses.

    Khmelnytskyi National University actively pursues internationalization by implementing international projects, involving foreign teachers and experts; and expanding English-language programs. It is a member of the Business Association and the “Baltic University” program. The university participates in the USAID Cybersecurity Activity project to enhance Ukraine’s infrastructure resilience to cyberattacks through collaboration with the government, private sector, academia, and public organizations. Its scientific library is part of the RapidIL international exchange system. Through the Ukraine Global Faculty (UGF) project, students and teachers attend lectures by professors from leading foreign universities, renowned experts, and business professionals.

    As part of the implementation of international projects, several advanced facilities operate within the university:

    • Competence Center for Educational Management and International Educational Programs, which supports internationalization and modernization of educational processes.
    • Training and Technical Center at the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, offering hands-on learning aligned with industry demands.
    • A state-of-the-art Prototyping Laboratory, equipped with modern 3D printers and 3D scanners, enabling students to engage in additive manufacturing and reverse engineering.
    • The HAAS Training and Technical Center, focusing on the design of technological processes for CNC metalworking equipment, allows students to develop skills in precision manufacturing.
    • A Training and Scientific Center for Sewing Equipment branded “BRUCE”, fitted with cutting-edge industrial sewing machines featuring automated drives and control systems, providing practical training in apparel technology.

    Additionally, the university houses an ultramodern Training and Research Center for Automation Systems and Electric Drives, established in partnership with SIEMENS. The center is equipped with the latest SIEMENS hardware and software, enabling students to acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of automated process control systems used across various industries.

    A 500 kW rooftop solar power station has also been installed and is fully operational. It includes a central dispatching unit, an automated electricity metering system, and a real-time monitoring system based on Smart Logger technology. This setup enables continuous control over the station’s performance and helps supply the university with sustainable electric power, significantly reducing energy costs.

    Student accommodation at Khmelnytskyi National University is designed to provide a comfortable and conducive living environment for academic pursuits.
