Poltava University of Economics and Trade trains specialists in the field of Finance, Accounting and Auditing, International Economics, Enterprise Economics, Management, Personnel Management and Labor Economics, Information Technologies, Economic Cybernetics, Marketing, Commodity Research and Commerce, Organisation of Trade, Commodity Research and Expertise in Customs. It is situated in the center of Poltava, the spiritual capital of Ukraine and one of the most environmentally-friendly cities of the left-bank Ukraine. The university has a license to train specialists for foreign countries.
History
Poltava University of Economics and Trade is well known on the territory of the former Soviet Union as Poltava Cooperative Institute for its graduates, research and significant contribution to the development of higher education. The activity it started in 1961 as a teaching and consultation center (TCC), since 1968 it became a department and soon – in 1970 a branch of Lviv Trade and Economics Institute. Associate Professor Anastasia D. Maslova was appointed the head of the TCC and the Acting Dean of the Department.
In 1974 Poltava Cooperative Institute (PCI) was established. Since that time until the early 90s of the XX century the institute had been preparing highly qualified specialists for all Soviet republics. After Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine, the Institute was subordinated to the Central Union of Consumer Societies of Ukraine (Ukoopspilka). In 1985 -1990 Poltava Cooperative Institute had a branch in Baku.
In the early 90s institute started postgraduate education. For this purpose, Interdisciplinary Institute for advanced training of specialists of Consumer Cooperatives (IITR) was opened in Poltava Cooperative Institute. In 1997, following a decision of the State Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine from 9 December 1997 the Institute has been accredited by the Accreditation level III. It gave the right to train professionals according to the educational qualification levels of: Specialist – 3 specialties and Master – 5 specialties. Ministry of Education of Ukraine during 1998 awarded the institute with appropriate licenses and certificates.
In 2000, following a decision of the State Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from July 11, 2000 Poltava Cooperative Institute has been certified. Licensed volume set to full-time education in the 2000-2001 academic year was 575 persons, retraining – 150 persons. In 2009 the University was accredited again and by the State Accreditation Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on July 2, 2009 it was awarded the fourth – the highest level.
In April 2010 university changed its name to “Higher Educational Establishment of Ukoopspilka “Poltava University of Economics and Trade”.
University Today
Poltava University of Economics and Trade has a modern material and technical basis: total area of laboratory premises is over 52.7 thousand square meters; four dormitories, housing 2,150 students; 38 multimedia lecture rooms; 35 computer classes; Sports Complex “Olympia” (gyms, sports rooms for fitness, a gymnasium for wrestling and boxing, football field with artificial turf); training center for catering; Editing and Publishing Center, which provides annual printing of educational and scientific literature of over 500 typographical units; free Wi-Fi in the rooms and dormitories of the university; electronic and classical reading rooms, media library with a video room.
There are 1985 university personal computers, which are connected into a common university local area network with access to the Internet and “Uran” with specialized computer labs, electronic reading rooms, home PCs students, graduate students and doctoral candidates have a wide access to the electronic resources both the university library and the best higher education institutions of Ukraine, the U.S. and UK.
Poltava University of Economics and Trade is actively involved in international cooperation, having signed over 80 agreements with universities and organizations across Europe and around the world. It is also a member of the Magna Charta Universitatum, affirming its adherence to European standards in higher education. Teaching staff includes more than 58 Doctors of Sciences and Professors, 270 Candidates of Sciences and Associate Professors.
One of the strategic directions of active development at Poltava University of Economics and Trade is the establishment and strengthening of international relations. Poltava University of Economics and Trade offers training abroad in the countries such as Turkey, USA, Montenegro, Egypt, Poland, Switzerland and others.
High computer saturation of educational activities of the institution, wide introduction of computer technologies in educational, research, administrative, library, publishing, accounting and financial activities of the university have ensured its priority among higher educational establishments in Ukraine in terms of computerization of educational activities.
Poltava University of Economics and Trade holds a notable position among higher education institutions in Ukraine, consistently demonstrating strong results in both national and international rankings. According to the Webometrics Ranking (January 2023), PUET was ranked 55th among Ukrainian universities, showing improvement from 69th place in July 2022. In the uniRank 2024 global university rankings, Poltava University of Economics and Trade is placed 83rd in Ukraine and 6712th worldwide. The university also appeared in the “Top-200 Ukraine 2023” national ranking, taking the 91st position. In the Scopus scientific ranking for 2024, Poltava University of Economics and Trade ranked 157th out of 214 Ukrainian universities, reflecting the university’s growing research output.

Accommodation
Poltava University of Economics and Trade student campus comprises 4 dormitories accommodating over 2,000 students and postgraduates. It consists of a complex of 9-story dormitory buildings. The student dormitories are equipped for the residence of out-of-town and international students during their studies at the university. The management of the Student Hostel is carried out by its directorate in collaboration with the bodies of student self-government with the support of the Poltava University of Economics and Trade administration. The dormitory premises include a medical unit, a dental office, and internet access in all rooms.
Poltava University of Economics and Trade hostel provides students with free access to the Sports Complex “Olymp”, a basketball court, a football field, and an outdoor workout area, allowing students to engage in sports in their free time. Information regarding dormitory accommodation and the availability of vacant places can be obtained from the deputy dean for educational work of the respective institute/faculty to which the applicant was admitted as a student. It is the deputy dean who provides a certificate confirming that a person enrolled as a student at the university has the right to stay in the dormitory.
