Chernihiv Polytechnic National University is a higher educational institution in Chernihiv Ukraine of IV level of accreditation. The basis of the University development concept is to train students to become experts competitive on the labour market, implementation of existing and development of new information and communication technologies for teaching and research, constant upgrading of research activity and further integration into the European and world educational, scientific and informational environment.
History
On May 11, 1960 the General Technical Faculty was established in Chernihiv by Decree № 651 of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, which was subordinated to Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. E.H. Kalyta, a competent authority of the higher school was appointed the Dean of the Faculty. On February 23, 1965 Chernihiv Branch of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was created by Order № 99 of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ukrainian SSR as from September 1, which comprised three faculties: Mechanical, Technological and General Technical Faculty. E.H. Kalyta was nominated as the Branch Director.
From 1965 to 1991Chernihiv Branch of KPI developed as a higher technical educational institution providing the region with highly skilled engineering staff. In 1991 Chernihiv Branch of Kiev Polytechnic Institute became an independent institution of higher education Chernihiv Technological Institute. In 1999 Chernihiv Technological Institute was given the highest status educational qualification and became Chernihiv State Technological University. On October 4, 2013 Chernihiv State Technological University was granted the status of “National” by Presidential Decree № 544/2013 and became Chernihiv National University of Technology.
Chernihiv National University of Technology was renamed into the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University according to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science № 1532 dated December 10, 2019.
Univerity Today
The University today is a complicated polystructural system which includes academic and scientific institutes, colleges, research and production complexes and research centres. Our development plans are connected with constant improvement of educational programmes in order to improve competitiveness of both: the University at the educational environment and our graduates at the labour market.
Chernihiv Polytechnic National University provides multi-level continuous training at all existing educational-qualification levels, from Junior Specialist’s to Master’s degrees in almost 90 fields and specialties. The quality management system of the University educational activity, stipulated by the educational qualification programs of “Junior Specialists”, “Bachelor”, “Specialist”, “Master” is certified by State Standard ISO 9001: 2009 (ISO 9001: 2008).
Chernihiv Polytechnic National University extensively uses innovative technologies in its educational process. A local information and communication network of the University and more than 30 web-sites have been created. They are constantly developed and updated. The University has also implemented the system of distance learning and put into operation the electronic library and repository.
The University pays particular attention to the practical training of experts. Students undergo practical training and internships at leading enterprises, institutions and organizations of Ukraine and abroad (Poland, Great Britain, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Greece, Turkey, etc.).
The whole system of training and education at the University is aimed at the innovative education technologies, research and educational personnel creative potential. Material and technical resources, laboratory facilities, extensive contacts with enterprises, research institutions, colleagues and partners in Ukraine and abroad, makes it possible to train competitive engineers, programmers, construction workers, economists, managers, workers of the social and agrarian spheres, lawyers, who are always in demand on the labour market not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.Senior students also have an opportunity to study at foreign universities under the government and various international educational programs of academic exchange and double degree programmes.
According to various national and international rankings — including the Scopus scientometric database, the “Top-200 Ukraine” ranking, the consolidated ranking, the UniRank ranking, and rankings based on admission campaign results — Chernihiv Polytechnic National University is ranked among the top 50 universities in Ukraine.
The university consistently initiates activities aimed at fostering effective cooperation between the state, the education and science sectors, and business. One of the key initiatives is the launch of annual Business Forums, which bring together representatives of government authorities, local self-government, as well as enterprises, institutions, and organizations interested in building strong partnerships with the university. These forums serve as a platform for addressing urgent regional challenges and enhancing the training of highly qualified specialists for various industries.
The structure of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University includes 5 educational-scientific institutes, 2 faculties, 28 departments, Center of retraining and distance learning, Postgraduate and doctoral studies, Scientific library, Business innovation center, Editorial and publishing department and a developed network of economic accounting units. The university consists of the College of Economics and Technology and the College of Transport and Computer Technology.

Accommodation
The student dormitory of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University offers a comfortable and friendly living environment designed to meet both academic and personal needs. It is a corridor-type residence, with rooms accommodating 2 to 3 students. Each room is furnished with essential furniture, including beds, desks, chairs, and storage units, providing a cozy and functional space for study and relaxation.
Bathrooms and sinks are conveniently located at the end of each floor corridor, and each floor is equipped with two kitchens where students can prepare meals. A shared shower facility is available on the first floor, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
For added convenience, a laundry room with a free washing machine is located on the first floor.
Beyond the essentials, the dormitory also supports students’ intellectual and social life. It features a library, a quiet reading room, and a recreation room where students can unwind, socialize, or enjoy group activities.
The hostel complex includes a modern sports and recreation area, with indoor fitness equipment and an outdoor sports ground. Students have access to a large running track, exercise stations, a basketball court, and a mini football field — all promoting a healthy and active lifestyle right on campus.
