    Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University is a self-governing (autonomous) higher education institution of the 4th level of accreditation. The University enjoys a strong reputation among leading legal education centers in Ukraine and abroad. For many years, it has confidently maintained a top position in the field of legal education in the country, as confirmed by various rankings, numerous awards, high demand for its graduates in practice, and its continued attractiveness to prospective students.

    History

    The history of the University dates back to the 19th century, when the Kharkiv Imperial University, which included a department of moral and political sciences, was established on November 17, 1804, by order of Emperor Alexander I. In 1835 it was officially renamed to the Faculty of Law of the University.

    In 1920, by the decision of the Government of Ukraine, the Institute of National Economy was established on the basis of the Faculty of Law of Kharkiv University. It was basically an institution, which trained lawyers for the state bodies. The Institute was renamed to Kharkiv Law Institute in 1937.

    By the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine of March 20, 1991, the Kharkiv Law Institute was reorganized into the Ukrainian State Law Academy. By the Decree of the President of Ukraine of March 30, 1995 № 267 the Academy was granted the status of a national self-governing (autonomous) state higher educational institution, and by the Decree of November 4, 1995 it was given the name of Yaroslav Mudryi. The Decree of the President of Ukraine No 457 of June 21, 2001 “Issues of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy of Ukraine” granted additional rights to the Academy with the approval of the Statute by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

    According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine № 1194/2010 of December 24, 2010 and Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 2213-P of December 8, 2010 Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy of Ukraine was transformed into the National University “Yaroslav Mudryi Law Academy of Ukraine”.

    According to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine № 1697 of December 4, 2013, the National University “Mudryi Law Academy of Ukraine” was renamed to Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.

    University Today

    Currently, the material and technical base of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University includes 19 academic buildings, 15 student dormitories, a Student Palace, an educational and library complex, as well as sports, cultural, entertainment, and health facilities, along with administrative and utility buildings located in the cities of Kharkiv and Poltava. Today, the University is fully equipped with high-quality educational spaces that feature modern technical infrastructure and aesthetic design.

    Favorable conditions have been created for physical education and sports. Sports grounds and fully equipped gyms and fitness halls are available in all academic buildings and dormitories. The University’s Student Palace operates effectively, offering facilities for cultural and social activities, educational events, and the creative and personal development of students and staff.

    Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University is actively developing international relations through bilateral and multilateral agreements and long-term international projects. The University partners with more than 50 institutions from countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus, the United States, Uzbekistan, France, Sweden, and many others. In recent years, its international activity has significantly expanded.

    The University offers joint master’s programs in “International Law” and “European and International Business Law,” taught in English. These programs allow graduates to earn degrees from Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), and the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (France) within two years.

    University students actively participate in international legal competitions and regularly win top places in some of the world’s most prestigious moot court contests, including the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition.

    Accommodation

    Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University provides its students with comfortable and well-equipped hostel facilities that meet modern standards of student housing. The university maintains 15 dormitories located primarily near academic buildings, ensuring quick and convenient access to classes and campus resources.

    Each hostel is furnished with all essential amenities to support comfortable student living. Rooms are fully equipped with necessary furniture, including beds, desks, chairs, and storage units. Communal facilities include kitchens, laundry rooms, and study areas. Most hostels also offer access to Wi-Fi, enabling students to stay connected and continue their studies seamlessly.

Sports grounds and fitness areas are available at or near many dormitories, encouraging physical activity and recreational engagement.
