National University “Odesa Law Academy” is a higher educational institution in Odesa, Ukraine. National University “Odesa Law Academy”is the center of legal education, culture, and science of Ukraine, a leading higher educational institution of jurisprudence.
History
The University was founded in 1997 on the basis of the Law Institute of Odesa National University named by I.I. Mechnikov. In 1998, Odesa State Law Academy became a member of the European University Association. In 2000, it obtained the status of a National University. In 2004, the Academy signed the Magna Charta Universitatum in Bologna, Italy.
In 2007, it celebrated its 10th anniversary. In 2008, Odesa National Law Academy became a member of the European Public Law Organization and received the European Quality Award according to the decision of the European Council of Rectors.
In 2010, it was recognized as the best legal higher educational institution of Ukraine according to the St. Volodymyr rating. In the same year, the South Regional Centre of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine was established on the basis of the Academy. Also in 2010, Odesa National Law Academy was reorganized into the National University “Odesa Law Academy”.
University Today
National University “Odesa Law Academy” has the highest IV level of accreditation and a licence from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the training of lawyers of all educational qualification levels and educational degrees: “Professional Junior Bachelor”, “Junior Bachelor”, “Bachelor”, “Master”. The University prepares Doctors of Philosophy and Doctors of Law.
The University actively cooperates with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the Supreme Court, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, and other central and local bodies of state power and bodies of local self-government, the Southern Regional Centre of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, legal entities and individuals, and with leading television and radio companies, publishing houses, advertising, and PR-agencies, which ensure the guarantee of future employment of university graduates and their proper professional training.
The National University “Odesa Law Academy” also closely cooperates with the Council of Europe, the Venice Commission, the OSCE, the European Court of Human Rights, and various sectoral international intergovernmental organizations, which gives the possibility of internships and further employment in the leading European institutions.
The National University “Odesa Law Academy” offers optional lecture courses in legal disciplines in English, German, and French languages (classes mainly coincide with the regular schedule). Students are allowed to visit optional courses based on language proficiency assessment. The National University “Odesa Law Academy” also participates in 2 projects of the Trans-European University Exchange Program TEMPUS IV.
