Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics is a state-owned institution of higher education located in Kharkiv, one of the leading universities in Ukraine specializing in economics. The university provides education and conducts research in a wide range of specialties in the fields of economics and management, IT, public administration, journalism, tourism, international relations, and more.
History
Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics is the legal successor of the Kharkiv Engineering and Economics Institute – was founded on October 22, 1930, based on the Industrial Faculty of the Kharkiv Institute of National Economy.
In the 1948/1949 academic year, the university began enrolling international students from Eastern European countries, and since 1959 – citizens of the People’s Republic of China. Over time, its international student body expanded to include representatives from more than 25 countries worldwide.
From the late 1950s to the 1980s, joint research laboratories were created at the institute in cooperation with various government agencies. The number of applied research projects commissioned by enterprises significantly increased. In the 1970s, the institute conducted joint research and maintained business relationships with more than 30 research and design institutes, other higher education institutions, research organizations, government agencies, and scientific-industrial associations. Since 1988, the university began training specialists in foreign economic activity.
In 1994, the institute was granted the Level IV accreditation – the highest level for higher education institutions in Ukraine – and by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated April 20, 1994, it was transformed into Kharkiv State University of Economics.
In 2004, based on the decision of the State Accreditation Commission (protocol No. 50 dated April 13, 2004), the university confirmed its Level IV accreditation. By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 956/2004 dated August 21, 2004, the university was granted national status. In 2013, the university was named after Simon Kuznets, Nobel Laureate in Economics in 1971.
In 2012, the university received the highest award of the National System for Ranking Higher Education Institutions and was awarded the diploma “Leader of the National System for Ranking Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine.” In 2013, the university won the Grand Prix in the category “International Activities of Universities” and received the diploma “Leader of International Activities” at the “Modern Educational Institutions – 2013” exhibition organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
University Today
The educational process at Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics is supported by a teaching staff of 650, including 49 Doctors of Sciences and 411 Candidates of Sciences. The university comprises 7 faculties and 35 departments, as well as a department for part-time, distance, and postgraduate education, postgraduate and doctoral programs, specialized dissertation defense boards, research and training laboratories.
The university publishes the academic journals Economics of Development and Development Management. Together with the Research and Development Center for Industrial Development Problems, the university is also a co-founder of the journal Business Inform. All these journals are recognized professional publications in the field of economics.
Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics provides a full range of educational services implementing multistage training, retraining, and upgrading of specialists in fields such as Economy and Business, Management, Government, Computer Sciences, Publishing Business and Printing Industry, Tourism, on three qualifying levels: training Bachelor, Specialist (Bachelor) and Masters. The university operates a Department of Distance, Online, and Postgraduate Education, which is responsible for ensuring distance and online education at the university, as well as developing educational programs for the professional development of specialists from enterprises, organizations, or institutions.

Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics is one of the most recognized higher education institutions in Ukraine, particularly known for its expertise in economics. Accommodation
The dormitory of Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics is a 9-story building with a corridor-style layout. Each floor contains 17 rooms, including 5 double rooms and 12 triple rooms. Shared facilities on each floor include kitchens and restrooms. The building is equipped with both hot and cold water supply and provides access to the Internet throughout.
On the first floor, students have access to washing machines, a clothes dryer, an ironing room, and a dedicated study room for academic activities.
The hostel is designed to offer a comfortable and functional living environment that supports both the daily needs and academic success of students.
