Zaporizhzhya State Technical University was established in 1900 as one of the most popular universities in Western Ukraine. The decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has granted the university a License to conduct educational activities at the first (Bachelor’s), second (Master’s), and third(educational-scientific/educational-creative) levels of higher education. In 2022, the university provided training in 41 specialties within 20 fields of knowledge. In August 2001 according to the Ukrainian President’s Decree ZSTU was awarded the status of a National institution. During 2006-2007 a wide amount of separate structural units such as Berdyansk Machine Construction College, Tokmak Mechanical School, Zaporizhzhya College of Radioelectronics, Zaporizhzhya Electrotechnical College, and Humanitarian College entered the university.
University Today
The Zaporizhzhya State Technical University prepares specialists through full-time, part-time, and dual forms of higher education. The university comprises 5 educational institutes, 13 faculties, 65 departments, 9 educational and laboratory buildings equipped with modern facilities, and 5 student dormitories with a total capacity of 2,300 beds, including one for families. It houses a Scientific Library with a collection of over 1 million books, advanced information networks connected to the global Internet and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine’s “Uran” network, an editorial-publishing department, a computer printing house, 2 sports and health resorts located on the Dnipro River and the Azov Sea coast, a sanatorium, a medical center, sports and dining complexes, and a robust administrative and economic section, among others.
The Zaporizhzhya State Technical University academic staff consists of over 800 individuals, with 437 holding academic degrees and titles, including 58 doctors of science and professors. Among the faculty members, 24 are elected full members and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences and branch academies of Ukraine, and 11 hold honorary titles such as distinguished figures of science and technology, distinguished workers of education, and State Prize laureates. Currently, the university has 11,303 students, including 7,403 full-time students. The university has a Military Department for reserve officer training for the Armed Forces of Ukraine alongside full-time education. Preparatory work with prospective students is carried out at the Pre-University Training Center through preparatory departments, preparatory courses, and weekend schools.
Campuses and Buildings
Zaporizhzhya State Technical University territories include 7 educational buildings, a sports complex, and administrative and business buildings. The university provides students with 5 renovated hostels with a living space of 25,000 sq.m. ensuring 100% student accommodation. One of the hostels is used for married student couples. The University campus occupies a territory of 14,2 hectares including:
- Educational zone – 7.8 hectares;
- Living zone with hostels – 2.25 hectares;
- Recreation zone – 3.8 hectares;
- Other – 0.35 hectares.
The main building of the university hosts a canteen, assembly hall, editorial and publishing departments, and Center of Computer Technologies as well as auditoriums, laboratories, and computer classes. There are 43 computer classes used for educational and research activities of students, University administration, and academic staff. Computers are also used in most university laboratories, where laboratory equipment is combined with computers used for investigations of different algorithms and technologies. The total number of modern computers used for educational purposes equals 1430 units. The university owns 4 scientific lending libraries and 8 reading halls with 454 seats. Library computer net equipped with 2 servers, 7 scanners, 7 printers, 2 copy machines, and 76 computers connected into a joint communicational net. Electronic libraries effectively increase the sticking of funds with electronic textbooks and methodical materials created by university lecturers.
